In this edition of
10 Questions With... we get to know Ineke Heck a little better. Ineke has worked in financial administration for many years and has built up a wealth of experience. She's down-to-earth, values clarity, and has a great sense of humor. But who is Ineke outside of the numbers? Time to find out more about her—about her work, dreams, mishaps, and what truly makes her happy.
- What work-related skill would you still like to learn?
I’d really like to learn Power BI. I think it would be both useful and interesting to present financial data in a clear and visually appealing way. For anyone who’s unfamiliar with it: Power BI is a Microsoft tool that lets you analyze and visualize data through interactive dashboards.
- What do you think are the rules of life?
Enjoy everything in the moment—don’t wait for “later.” Life moves fast and is often unpredictable, so I try to make the most of it. I also believe it’s important to stay positive; there’s already enough negativity in the world. And never forget to treasure your true friends—they're rare, so take good care of them.
- What’s the biggest mistake you’ve ever made at work?
I once posted a large number of entries in the wrong fiscal year. Everything had to be corrected. It was quite a bit of work, but at least I learned to always double-check the year labels!
- When did you realize this job was really your thing?
I started working at a bank when I was 18 and did a variety of tasks there, but it didn’t quite click. Since I studied economics, I wanted to focus more on the financial side of things. I eventually joined the administration team at a steel construction company, and that felt like the right fit. I’ve been in this field ever since—and it suits me well.
- What do you do when you lose focus for a bit?
I step away from the computer and do something else for a while. Taking a short break helps me return with a fresh perspective.
- What job would you like to try for a day, and why?
I’d love to spend a day working as an air traffic controller. It fascinates me how they manage all that air traffic so precisely. How do they keep all those planes safely apart in the sky? I’d really like to see that process up close.
- Imagine you had no fears—what would you do right away?
I’d go bungee jumping and skydiving! Right now it still feels a bit too scary, but if I had no fear at all, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
- What does your perfect non-work day look like?
Going for a walk with my dog Max—I really enjoy that. Then relaxing with my best friends or with my daughter. Just being together, good company, maybe a drink and a nice conversation. It doesn’t need to be more than that.
- What could someone wake you up for in the middle of the night?
A great vacation! If someone woke me up and said, “Pack your bag, we’re going!”—I’d be ready in no time.
- What still surprises you sometimes?
How little respect people can have for one another. It feels like everyone has such a short fuse these days. I get that the world is changing fast and can be overwhelming, but a little empathy and kindness would go a long way.
