Earlier this year we organized
a company-family-day. Together with our husband/boyfriend or
wife/girlfriend and our children we were expected at Fredriek's house. Fredriek kept it a big secret what we were going to do until we entered here house..
First
we received an invitation including route description. I didn't think I
needed it because my husband and I have a navigation system. But, as I
should have known, Fredriek made it with a good reason. The bridge that
we needed to cross to get to her village was blocked. She knew that and
tried to help us. But I, as many of my other colleagues, was pigheaded
and used our navigation anyway. We all arrived about 30 minutes late.
When
we entered Fredriek's kitchen it was clear to us immediately that the
dinner was not going to be served to the table. We saw a lot of raw
vegetables, meat and an octopus. Fortunately Jolanda's husband was
willing to clean and prepare the octopus. Jolanda and I needed to cook
risotto, including fresh peeled peas, a lot of work but it tasted great. Ferry
made bread dough with the children. I think the children had more dough
on there hands and in there hear then there was in the bowl. Anyway,
the children had a lot of fun! When the children were ready and washed
off they baked there own bread in the campfire, when ready they
put a sausage in it to create a hotdog. A lot of men were taking care
of the campfire and barbeque. They also checked regularly if the beer
was cold enough. Fortunately
Fredriek also invited a "real" cook to help us out. So after a few
hours we could join the table. And I must say, we all did a very good
job. It
was delicious including the octopus. Off course it didn't work out
exactly how it should with everyone. I remember a dessert that supposed
to look like jelly but somehow it now looked like a kind of rubber with
cherries in it. I will not mention the name of these persons to avoid
teasing. Afterwards we all received an empty book so we can create our own recipe book. We
all had fun this day and we hope to get together soon again. Off course
I will keep it in mind that I can always use it for my column.
Regards,
Ingrid
